Owner Operator of Southland Surf School – Jess Terrill founded the school in 2010, because she loves surfing, and loves to share the unique happiness that you get from surfing…….a feeling that only a surfer knows! She has been surfing for over 20 years now, and won the South Island Champs in 2016 and numerous NZ surfing Titles under her belt too. She represented New Zealand at the World Junior Champs 3 times and won two International Open Womens Titles at the Oceania Cup in Tonga surfing against women from Australia, Fiji, Tahiti, Tonga, New Caledonia and NZ.

Jess and her team at Southland Surf School cater for the individual from beginner to advanced. Private or groups lessons, school groups (camps and EOTC), staff functions/team building sessions, birthday parties, stag/hens do’s, surf charters, boat charters we have you covered and our instruction and guidance is tailored to meet your needs.

All equipment is provided in the lessons, including a 4/3 steamer wetsuit and booties. The lesson consists of 1.5hrs Tuition and a 1hour free board and wetsuit hire after that. Lesson times vary according to low tides and location according to wind direction but are predominantly held at either Colac Bay or Riverton Rocks Beach and Monkey Island.

Group lesson $50pp minimum of 4 people and up to 22
Private lessons $120
School and youth groups $30pp minimum of 8pax.

Southland Surf School provides a huge selection of over 30 surf boards ranging from 5’4 to 10ft. We also have a fleet of Stand-up Paddle boards and about 60 full length 4’3 wetsuits for all ages, shapes and size including booties gloves and hoods.

SUP Tours, Surfing, diving and fishing charters available with Southland Charters in one of the worlds last wild sustainable fisheries, on Maritime Certified Charter Vessels “FV Kerrisma” and “FV Guardian”. Come explore the isolated spots of Southland, Foveaux Strait and Stewart Island with Robbie and the boys who are local fisherman, divers and surfers who know where to go on the day according to weather and tides.
