Jacob’s River Estuary

The Pourakino and Aparima Rivers combine to form Jacob’s River Estuary which sits on the eastern side of Riverton. A narrow channel flows out from the estuary under the Riverton Bridge to Foveaux Strait. The Estuary is a well-known spot for dolphin spotting, fishing, water-skiing, kite-surfing, kayaking and rowing. A wetlands coastal walkway around the estuary is currently being developed by the South Coast Environment Society with an entrance at the end of Lucknow St.
